Space as an expression of form
Richard Serra is an iconic sculptural artist known for his large-scale works made specifically for certain sites around the globe. Serra’s ability to interact with the viewer through his use of simple forms and structures is inspired by the way in which he balances forms with the space in between.
The Organic Collection was created with the concept of space in mind. In order to connect with a piece of work, we ought to resonate with not only the structure itself, but with the ways in which we can occupy the vacuity it creates.
Shadows cascade and fall from organic forms, transcending the boundaries of space itself by creating fleeting moments of intimacy between forms and emptiness.
This photographic body of work beckons the viewer to absorb the ways in which shapes, shadows and space encounter each other, ultimately leaving us with familiar forms that share a sense of distance. These fleeting moments of connection create bold yet evanescent moments of harmony that have the ability to profoundly change the ways in which we regard an element as modest as space.
